Sun-dried, etc.


It’s not always beer and burritos in our little slice of brewvana. If you hadn’t heard, Iowa has really good dirt. And if you haven’t had a tomato grown in Iowa dirt, you haven’t had a tomato.

Of late, we’ve been lucky enough to have an influx of tomatoes at our disposal, and to avoid disposing of any, I’ve been working my tail off to put them to good use. Stocking up for the winter, I’ve got tons of chili and tomato sauce packed into the freezer. I also pulled out the old food dehydrator to “sun-dry” a few tomatoes for use in salads and whatnot.

The leaves are starting to turn and the tomato crops are about exhausted. We’ve enjoyed them fresh, and I look forward to the quick-and-hearty meals they will provide in the coming snow-blanketed months of winter.
