Rock solid blendaciousness of styles

hopfeninvertedWe took a mental health day yesterday and hit Des Moines for some much needed book store perusing, eating out, guitar looking-at and libation imbibing.

At Rock Bottom, the boys did root beer. Michelle and I did beer beer:

Old Curmudgeon: a tasty Iowa beer law abv-limited old ale

Double Black: a top of the abv limit “double” schwarzbier

Cask Cascade Red and Old Scratch samples: mmmm…cask

And Hopfenweizen: oh, my goodness–this beer gets more than a snippet:

Described as “wheat bock meets IPA,” this beer was an amazing melding of styles, flavors and aromas. I’m not sure where to begin, but it had this soft vanillabananapuddingpineappleapricotpapayatropicallovecreaminess that was simply divine, not that I use the word divine very often. And to think, I almost didn’t try that one!

Brewer Eric Sorensen is good, with the for-sure-ness.
