Drink like a Queen

With Queen Elizabeth wrapping up a trip to the Colonies, one with their mind in the beer gutter might ponder what it is that the Queen would drink, given England’s rich brewing history.

I’m thinking something from David Ealand’s Old Luxters Farm Brewery at Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery, which recently received a Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen. The brewery opened in 1990 to specialize in farm-brewed REAL ales, and produces unique, bottle- and cask-conditioned English ales.

Located in Buckinghamshire, England, Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery is the first microbrewery to receive this award. In order to be considered for such a Warrant, the supplier must maintain a trading relationship with an individual in the Family for at least five years.

If not the Queen, at least someone in the Royal Family is drinking to that. And if it raises the profile of microbreweries, we all should.

Here’s to Old Luxters!
